Peterborough

Today's plan was to head over to Peterborough to do the Wherigo that was published in Werrington for Christmas and then to attend an event in Bourne in the afternoon.

This was a fun wherigo with a panto theme in the town of Werrington just outside Peterborough.  All worked perfectly on the iPhone and Samsung S4 but the Oregon 550 crashed half way through.  We really enjoyed the straightforward gameplay of this Wherigo.  It was a bit of a walk to the final location, we could've relocated the car but we decided as it was such a lovely sunny morning we'd walk.

Cached Out

When we were on our way to the Werrington Wherigo the new Cache Out Wherigo was published in time for the nearby event.  We decided to do it before heading off to the event because straight after the event we needed to head home.  4 hours had elapsed and we naturally assumed that other caching teams would already have done the wherigo whilst attending the event so we were amazed and pleasantly surprised to find we were FTF on it!

Cache Out Event - Bourne

This event was held at The Jubilee Garage Pub in Bourne.  When the event was published I saw that it was in quite a unique venue so knew immediately we had to attend as it looked like something a little bit different.  The host Darlynne57 was really friendly and welcoming, in fact everyone at the event was really friendly and chatty, this was helped by the geo-bingo and was one of the reasons we attended as this is a great way to get everyone talking and mingling and is a game we've played at one of our own events.   Rather amusingly we were the only ones at the event to have travelled so far to get there (106 miles), so there was quite a queue to get us to fill in the relevant box on the geo-bingo square

We'd certainly done the right thing heading East for the day as the weather back home had been dull and rainy for most of the day.

A few FTFs for January

As mentioned in a previous blog, we try to find at least one FTF per month.

So far this month we'd failed miserably:
Sunday:  Missed out  on  Thomas the Tank Engine 9 - Edward by seconds
Monday afternoon: Another second place on Dark Lane
Monday evening: A pathetic third (in 20 minutes) on  60/2 Mile Post

So, when the notifications arrived for these new M6 Toll caches, there was no hesitation. I scribbled down the co-ords for Motorway Mayhem M6 Toll (Curdworth) and entered them into the Etrex on the way to  the car and headed up the M42, parked on the bridge and made an easy find.

I had only taken the co-ords for one cache as I hadn't expected to be first. A quick phone call to Donna and I had the co-ords for Motorway Mayhem M6 Toll (The Belfry)  whose location was suspiciously similar to the recently archived MotorwayMayhem M6 Toll - Toll View 3 !
 
The next one (Motorway Mayhem M6 Toll (Holly Lane)) was an easy find without co-ords as it was exactly where I thought it would be! No time for any more, back to work....

A very interesting little cache, just the sort of thing that grabs our interest, we had no idea there used to be a chapel in Bishopton.

We were hoping to go out to this one last night as we really hoping to see 'the lady in white' but just as we picked up the caching bag Mark's work phone rang and by the time it was all dealt with I'd already walked the dogs and settled down in front of the TV for the night so that was that. This morning I had to go to Tesco so on the way thought I'd have a go by myself.

Parked in a nearby road and walked to where I thought the chapel used to be - all the times I've driven this way and I'd never noticed this lane! Found the required information and headed back to the car to work out the final co-ords as my fingers were frozen. No problem working it all out so off I went in search of the cache, got to GZ and realised I'd left the hint info in the car, back to the car a second time...... worked it all out but couldn't get the hint to make any sense so went back to GZ for another look, rang Mark for moral support and he came up with a few suggestions like 'Don't come back until you've found it!!' ;) ..... so looked again but not confident with the hint so returned to the car (yes a third time) ..... this was getting ridiculous, just about to call it a day when I decided to check all the figures again and recheck the hint, yes I'd made a mistake decrypting the hint NOW IT MAKES SENSE!! So off to GZ and straight in for a nice little FTF.
