Can't believe it's been so long since I last wrote a blog. We haven't really done much in the way of travelling due to lockdown but we have been really busy moving house. We spent every weekend of the first lockdown decorating then in October we put the house on the market and quickly got a buyer. We moved into a rented house to speed up the process and are currently renting a house until our new house has been built in the Ribble Valley which should be around September/October.
Moving house was far from easy during lockdown. We really struggled to find a house to rent short term and one that would accept a dog but we eventually found one, it's very small and we are surrounded by boxes.
Once we'd moved into our temporary house it meant our daily dog walks had a bit of variety and it was nice getting to know a new area.
Oxford Weekend
We enjoyed a weekend in Oxford for the bank holiday weekend.
Friday
To break up the long journey we stopped off for a walk on Bredon Hill to do the Elephant Stone virtual.
We have really fond memories of walks in this area from pre-caching days with our family and then for return visits on caching walks.
Saturday
Saturday morning we visited the Devil's Quoit stone circle to do the virtual there.
The Devil's Quoit is a henge in Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire. The site is believe to be between 4000 and 5000 years old. From the parking you walk around a fishing lake and there is no obvious sign of the stone circle until you reach the gate in the hedge.
The name Devil's Quoit comes from the legend that the devil once played quoits with a beggar for his soul and won by flinging the great stones. Tradition has it that the Devil and his opponent were sitting on the top of Wytham Hill a few miles away when they played their game.
We headed into Oxford after to do some Adventure Labs. One set of Adventure labs took us past some brilliant street art along the Oxford canal. You can read more about the project here Oxford Canal Mural Project
Next was an evening walk around Iffley to do the set of Adventure Labs - such a picturesque spot.
Sunday
Back into Oxford for another couple of sets of Adventure Labs.
Luckily we were back at the van in time to tune into the Line of Duty finale.
MONDAY
Monday came round far too quickly and it was time to think about heading towards home.
First stop was an old Alpha Quest cache from 2005.
After a glorious sunny weekend the weather took a bit of a turn for the worst and it rained from midday onwards.
We stopped off in Bourton on the Water to do the two sets of Adventure Labs and a few caches. It's normally really busy here on sunny days so it's probably for the best that it was raining as it meant we had a lovely quiet walk.
It's been a few years since we last visited. We used to be regular visitors to the Model Railway with our children in pre-caching days.
Then it was back to the van and next stop was a virtual near Temple Guiting, Cromwell's Seat. We'd first visited this monument back in 2007 and enjoyed a couple of other walks there for various caches over the years so we knew it would be a lovely walk to round off our trip to the Cotswolds.
Unfortunately the weather had other ideas and it wasn't quite the sunny walk we'd had in mind. Gale force winds and heavy rain. When we got to the monument it was difficult to stay upright and even Charlie was shivering it was so bitterly cold. We gathered the necessary info and headed straight back to the van for a hot drink.
We have a few trips planned before our house move so I'll try and update the blog when I can.
Thanks for reading
